Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Palmerston North
Full time
Execution. Alignment. Accountability.

At Yorb, we help organisations design business‑led technology strategies that enable growth, resilience, and long‑term success. Technology isn’t the goal — better business outcomes are.

As we continue to scale, we’re looking for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to work alongside our CEO and Senior Leadership Team to bring clarity, structure, and discipline to execution across the business.

This is a senior leadership role with organisation‑wide impact — ideal for an experienced operator who thrives on turning strategy into action, building strong leadership alignment, and ensuring the business runs with focus, follow‑through, and confidence.

The Opportunity

As COO, you are the Integrator of the business.

You’ll be responsible for running the day‑to‑day operation of Yorb — aligning leaders, integrating functions, and ensuring priorities are owned, tracked, and delivered.

This is not a functional operations role.
You don’t “own delivery teams” — you own execution, clarity, and accountability across the organisation.

You’ll partner closely with the CEO, creating the conditions that allow them to focus on vision, growth, and external relationships, confident that execution is being driven consistently through the business.

Your remit includes:

  • Turning vision and strategy into clear, executable priorities

  • Establishing and maintaining a disciplined operating rhythm

  • Aligning the Senior Leadership Team around outcomes and ownership

  • Strengthening cross‑functional integration and decision‑making

  • Driving follow‑through, performance discipline, and operational clarity

What Success Looks Like

  • The organisation operates with a clear, disciplined execution rhythm, where priorities are owned, decisions are made at the right level, and commitments are consistently delivered.

  • The Senior Leadership Team is aligned, cohesive, and accountable, demonstrating strong ownership of commitments and reliably delivering agreed outcomes.

  • Scorecards, metrics, and operational data are trusted, visible, and actively used to drive decisions, performance conversations, and continuous improvement.

  • Robust, fit‑for‑purpose processes are deliberately designed, embedded, and followed — reducing variation, rework, and operational noise.

  • Operational and structural issues are addressed early and at their root, reducing friction and reactive firefighting.

  • Financial performance is clearly understood and owned by leaders, with the COO ensuring disciplined planning, forecasting, visibility, and consistent delivery against financial commitments.

  • The CEO is freed to focus on vision, growth, and external relationships, confident execution is being driven with clarity and follow‑through.

About You

You’re a senior operational leader who brings calm, structure, and discipline to complex environments — and you care deeply about execution quality, leadership alignment, and outcomes.

You bring:

  • Significant experience in senior operational leadership roles (e.g. COO, GM Operations, Head of Delivery, or similar), with accountability for organisation‑wide execution.

  • Proven success running the day‑to‑day business, setting a clear operating rhythm, and ensuring priorities are owned, tracked, and followed through to completion.

  • A strong track record translating vision and strategy into clear plans, measurable priorities, and actionable initiatives.

  • Experience leading and aligning multi‑disciplinary leadership teams, holding peers accountable while building trust and cohesion.

  • The ability to design, embed, and enforce robust operating processes that are practical and followed.

  • Confidence using data, scorecards, and performance metrics to drive decisions and performance conversations.

  • Well‑developed commercial and financial acumen, with experience influencing outcomes across delivery, people performance, and profitability.

  • Experience partnering closely with a CEO or Visionary, providing balance, structure, and execution discipline.

  • Exposure to, or strong alignment with, EOS®, OKRs, Scaling Up, or similar execution and operating models is highly desirable.
