Intricate server wiring and network cables

Data stored in the cloud should still be backed up, there is a common misconception that once your data is stored with a third party your responsibility for said data ends. This is very far from the truth and Microsoft 365 is no exception to this assertion. Microsoft 365 has plenty of data redundancy features including:

  • Encryption of data at rest.

  • Redundant systems, including multiple mirrored copies of your data.

  • The ability to recover deleted e-mails for up to 30 days, and deleted SharePoint files for up to 91 days.

  • A version history on file changes, enabling access to previous versions.

However, these features are not the same as a backup. We are frequently asked to recover files and e-mails that were deleted or corrupted beyond 365’s built in limits. We recommend all clients with a Microsoft 365 subscription also invest in the appropriate controls to keep your data safe.
