The benefits of a Digital roadmap

If you Aim for nothing, you’re sure to get it…..

Every business needs a plan. No doubt you have a business plan, the What, Where, When Why and HOW you will achieve YOUR goals. When we think about IT and the significant impact technology has in your business, then it just makes sense to plan for success with the BEST technology that is available.

At YORB we refer to this as a Digital Road Map. We have some very smart and experienced people who LOVE working with business owners to build a Digital Road Map.

Building a digital roadmap offers several AMAZING benefits to your businesses looking to leverage technology strategically.

Some of the key benefits include:

Clarity of Vision and Direction:

A digital roadmap helps outline YOUR Business digital transformation goals and objectives. It provides a clear path forward, aligning technology initiatives with overall business strategies. This clarity ensures that everyone in the organisation understands where they are headed and why. How cool would it be in your business for key people to know and understand IT better? Maybe delegating some IT tasks could engage team members and encourage learning opportunities? You could find an IT champion in your business and help their career grow.

Resource Optimisation:

By identifying redundancies, inefficiencies, and overlaps in technology projects, a digital roadmap allows for the optimization of resources. This prevents wastage of time and money on projects that do not contribute significantly to the organisation's goals. Time is vital in business, we’ve all heard work smarter not harder, make the most of the resources you do have. Sometimes in business you have the right people just doing the wrong thing. Imagine if you have the right technology in your business already, you just don’t know it…yet.

Change Management and Communication:

Digital transformation often involves significant changes in processes, tools, and even company culture. A roadmap provides a structured way to communicate these changes to employees, stakeholders, and customers, reducing resistance and facilitating smoother transitions. I’m sure everyone in your business LOVES change…... I know I know wishful thinking. However, by planning for change you can provide time for your staff to understand the WHY of change, what will happen, When and How. This can also help you as a business owner identify those in the team who may need some additional training and/or reassurance that EVERYTHING WILL BE OK. Remember your IT champion I mentioned before, WOW what an opportunity for them to step up, show some leadership and grow their professional development.

Risk Management:

A roadmap helps identify potential risks and challenges associated with each digital initiative. By having a comprehensive view of the technology landscape, businesses can proactively plan for risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans. As an example, we could help implement some training and testing around phishing emails, no doubt you are getting a few, hopefully you are managing that risk. Or what happens if one of your team has their laptop stolen, is your data protected?

Innovation and Agility:

A well-designed digital roadmap encourages businesses to stay up to date with emerging technologies and market trends. This enables them to adapt and incorporate innovative solutions into their strategy, maintaining competitiveness and agility in a rapidly changing environment. Plan to stay up to date with technology, are you using AI effectively, do you know about MS365 copilot and how your competitors may be using that once it’s launched?

Long-Term Perspective:

A digital roadmap typically covers a specific timeframe, often spanning multiple years. This long-term perspective encourages strategic thinking and prevents the organisation from getting caught up in short-term, reactionary technology decisions.

Stakeholder Alignment:

When different departments and teams have a clear understanding of the organisation's digital strategy, it becomes easier to align their efforts and collaborate effectively towards common goals. Do you have a board of directors, are they at risk by potential data or privacy leaks, do they know the legal and financial implications/risk they could face if things go wrong?

Measurement and Accountability:

A digital roadmap includes specific milestones, timelines, and key performance indicators (KPIs). This allows the organisation to measure progress and hold teams accountable for achieving their objectives.

Customer-Centric Approach:

By aligning digital initiatives with customer needs and preferences, organisations can improve customer experiences and engagement. A well-structured roadmap helps ensure that technology investments are directed towards enhancing customer satisfaction. Have you taken time to consider your customers/clients and how BEST use of technology can help them be more engaged? What is available, or what can you plan to implement to make your client engagement better…. or better than YOUR competitors?

A digital roadmap is YOUR IT plan it serves as a strategic guide that helps YOUR BUSINESS navigate the complex landscape of digital transformation. This provides structure, clarity, and direction, enabling efficient resource allocation, risk management, and the achievement of business objectives. Better yet get your team involved and share the process of being IT smart.

Don’t be average….BE AMAZING.

With cybercrime increasing at an exponential rate, the importance of cyber security is crucial now more than ever. Large organisations such as Fujitsu and Trello to government entities such as the Australian Court System, and more recently, the US Government have fallen victim to cybercrime resulting in data breaches this year.

What a busy start to 2024, unfortunately we are approaching the end of our run of long weekends. We typically run our businesses in two gears, the external facing business with clients and the internal busyness that while frequently neglected is equally important in the long run. The trick has always been balancing those two, ensuring we can achieve immediate client goals, whilst preparing for tomorrow. It feels like this year we’ve been running in both gears from the very beginning with plenty of work, challenges and excitement in both. We see the same challenges when working with our clients; the immediate needs of keeping users working & productive, ensuring backups are working and security is in check. But also balancing this with longer term strategic business and technology goals. This quarter we will be launching our re-imagined Digital Partnership solution, with agreed quarterly focus areas, focusing on topics such as Security, Business Continuity, Productivity, Future Technology (think AI, Chat GPT, Co-Pilot) and Business Intelligence. Our aims are to ensure you have the expertise, resources, and capacity to execute on your vision, whilst also keeping an eye on any day-to-day business requirements. With the ever-increasing pace of technological change and critical nature of IT in today’s business, this is an area that requires constant attention, whilst not deflecting from the day-to-day. In March we also undertook seminars on the future of AI and Microsoft Co-Pilot in Whanganui, Levin, Palmerston North and Hastings. These were tremendously successful with over 180 people signing up to attend. There are a lot of misconceptions. about AI and how it will impact our businesses. It’s important we all keep our eyes on where this technology is headed so we can plan for the opportunities and challenges it will inevitably bring. If you were unable to make the seminar, please head along to YouTube to watch the recording: Link Here , apologies for the audio issues at the start. For our customers on the West Coast, we are running a series this week. Daniel Goymer CEO
